Urban Studies

As the number of people living in urban settings increases around the world, how do we make sure that people closely are also living well? Over the past decade, Copenhagen has consistently ranked as one of the top 10 most livable cities and is leading the world in sustainable urban solutions. Core Course

European Urban Experience: Why Cities Matter
Fall/Spring, 3 Credits

Using the city as our classroom, this course combines first-hand experiences through biking, walking, and sensing the city with theoretical knowledge of the built environment, urban life, and urban transformations. The understanding of cities draws from different fieFall) or Nantes or Paris or Vienna (Spring)

  • Core Course Week: Northern Germany or Southern Sweden or Western Sweden

    • Early in the semester, you delve into your academic focus during Core Course Week, in which you travel on a short Study Tour for three days in Denmark or a neighboring country, combined with a two-day seminar in Copenhagen. Later in the semester, you travel again with your Core Course on a week-long Study Tour in Europe.

    While on tour, theories learned in the classroom come to life by meeting with professionals and experts in your field who contribute to furthering your understanding of course topics. Study Tours are hands-on and experiential, combining theory with practice, and expose you to additional cultural perspectives. You have the opportunity to visit sites and experts in your field of interest that you may not otherwise have access to.
